Late last year the JV completed a section of work that is known as the North Frame which is part of the Avon River Precinct. The JV undertook landscaping works on the former PGC site on behalf of Otakaro LTD (with consultation to the bereaved families). This site is where 18 people lost their lives during the February 2011 earthquake. The families wished this site to be treated respectfully, but remain a low key place of significance.
Just down from the former PGC site is Barker’s Reserve where the JV also recently completed landscaping works. Barker’s Reserve is of little known historical importance to Christchurch with many aspects of this reserve having a small piece of Christchurch history in itself. The path has been widened and more plants have been added to the original garden area.

There are a number of historical features and protected trees that needed to be considered while works took place. The light poles were originally powered by gas and are considered to be a part of Christchurch’s heritage. The JV gave these light poles a sprucing up and brought them into the modern age by refitting them with LEDs.
Through the reserve are dozens of protected trees many of which are gifts to Christchurch from other cities around the world. The Poplar trees that line the river are also of significance having been a part of the Avon River banks for close to a century.
